Help & Support

Quick answers to the questions we hear most.

How do I post an activity?

Tap the yellow + in the middle of the bottom bar and pick Host an activity. Add a title, time, place, category, capacity, optional cover photos, and post. It goes live in seconds.

How do I create a post?

Tap the + button → Post. There are two flavours: Photo (pick photos, write a caption, optional title) and Text (give it a title — we auto-generate a cover, you can shuffle the design). Both go through the same compose page with topic + mention support.

What is Boost?

Boost is an optional way to give an eligible approved post or activity extra distribution inside FolksOut. Open any eligible post or activity, tap Boost, choose a boost voucher, and we'll show it to more relevant users until the exposure goal or time window is reached.

Only public content that has passed moderation can be boosted. Boost is not a paid ad placement and does not guarantee likes, saves, comments, joins, followers, or any specific result.

How do I add a topic (#tag) to a post?

Just type #xxx in the body — a suggestion list pops up over the keyboard with existing topics and a "create new" row. Tap one to commit it. You can also tap the # pill above the keyboard to insert the hash. Picked topics turn red in the body and show as yellow chips at the bottom of the published post.

How do I @ mention someone?

Type @ in the post body or comment box. By default the picker shows your most-recent DM contacts; keep typing to search every user. Tap a name to insert @username. In the published post the mention turns blue and is tappable — it opens that user's profile.

How do I share a post or an activity to a friend?

On any post or activity detail page, tap the share icon → Send to a friend. The picker shows your DMs and activity chats ordered by recent activity (pinned ones up top). Tap a row to send the card straight into that chat.

How do I share something from another app into FolksOut?

From Safari, Photos, the App Store, or any app's share sheet, scroll the row of apps until you see FolksOut and tap it. We open the friend picker so you can forward the link or photo into a DM or an activity chat.

How does the activity chat work?

When you host or join an activity, you're added to its activity chat automatically. The host can pin an announcement, promote co-admins, kick members, or update activity details (time / location push a notice to everyone). System messages also drop into the chat when someone joins or leaves — tap the name to open that person's profile.

Time-passed events don't end the chat: people who were there keep talking. The only thing that locks an activity chat is the host deleting the activity.

Can I leave an activity chat?

Yes, always. Open the activity → Leave activity. You're removed from the member list and the chat disappears from your inbox. If you leave within 24 hours of the start time, the host gets a push so they can find a replacement — earlier than that, it's silent.

What happens if the host cancels an activity?

Deleting an activity always counts as a cancellation, no matter the timing. Members get a push ("<title> cancelled by the host"), a system notice lands in the chat, and the chat goes read-only. The history stays so members can still scroll it. The activity disappears from the host's "My activities" list too — there's no undo.

Can the host edit an activity after it starts?

Yes. Title, time, location, cover, description — any field, any time, until the activity is deleted. Changing the start time, sign-up deadline, or location pushes "details updated" to everyone who joined, and a system message in the chat records what changed.

When does sign-up close?

Automatically — when any of these is true: capacity is reached, the host's sign-up deadline passes, or the start time arrives. The cover shows a "Sign-up closed" pill. The host doesn't have to do anything; if they want to re-open it, editing the deadline or start time pushes it later.

Why don't I see activities near me?

The Activities tab filters by your location and the distance slider. If you don't see much, widen the radius, switch to the Following / Online sub-tabs, or check that location permission is granted in iOS Settings.

How do I delete or edit a post?

Open the post from your own profile (the Me tab), tap in the top-right. Edit lets you change the title, body, topics, and visibility — the photos themselves are immutable. Delete is permanent and removes it for everyone.

How do I save a draft?

In the compose page, tap Save draft instead of Publish. Drafts live in your Me → Posts → Drafts tile. Each entry shows the cover (auto-generated for text drafts), title, and "X days ago". Tap to resume editing.

How do I follow / unfollow someone?

Open any user's profile (tap their avatar or name anywhere) → Follow. To unfollow, tap the same button again. The Following sub-tab on the activity and post feeds will show their content after you follow.

How do I block someone?

From their profile, tap Block. Blocked users can't message you, can't see your posts in any feed, and their content is hidden from you everywhere. You can unblock from Settings → Privacy & Safety → Blocked users.

My photo got rejected. Why?

Every uploaded photo goes through automated moderation. The only things that get rejected are sexual content, violence, and self-harm imagery. If you think the rejection was wrong, try a different photo or reach out to support.

Why was my account banned?

Bans usually come from rule violations — harassment, sexual / violent / hateful content, spam, unsolicited ads or marketing, or repeated photo rejections. The ban screen tells you the category. If you think it's a mistake, contact us.

How do I turn notifications on?

Open the app, go to Settings → Notifications, and flip the master toggle on. If iOS previously denied permission, the toggle will be disabled and you'll see a shortcut to iOS Settings.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. Your account is then scheduled for deletion with a 30-day recovery window: it becomes invisible to everyone else immediately (your profile 404s, you disappear from feeds and search), but the data is still on disk. Sign back in any time within those 30 days and a recovery sheet lets you cancel the deletion with one tap. If you don't restore, on day 30 we permanently remove your profile, photos, hosted activities, posts, direct messages, and topic-creator attribution.

How do I change which language the app uses?

Settings → Language. Choose English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, or "Use system" to follow your iOS language.
